Endodontics

Male dental patient receiving root canal therapyEndodontics is another term used for root canals. Dr. Alonzo M. Bell, DDS offers complete root canal therapies right here in his Alexandria dental office. There’s no need to be referred to an endodontic specialist!

When Are Root Canals Necessary?

A root canal preserves your tooth if it has suffered from an infected nerve. It’s actually our last line of defense before having to have the tooth extracted. Symptoms of nerve-damaged teeth often exhibit themselves as:

  • Dental abscesses
  • Darkening tooth enamel (in one tooth)
  • Previous injury or trauma
  • Severe decay or fracture

What is It?

Root canals are like fillings that extend into the nerve chamber of the tooth, up to the tip of the root. The nerve tissues are removed and the inner chamber is thoroughly cleaned. Dr. Bell then places a material into the chamber to fill it and seal it off to prevent reinfection.
