Crowns are full-coverage restorations that cover the entire surface of your tooth above the gumlines. They are often the last restoration option after a filling. Dr. Alonzo M. Bell, DDS uses porcelain dental crowns, as they are both aesthetically pleasing as well as durable.

Do I Need It?

How do you know whether or not you need a crown? Dr. Bell will examine your tooth visually as well as with an x-ray to determine the integrity of the tooth. In most cases, crowns are needed on teeth that are:

  • Severely decayed
  • Fractured / broken
  • Treated with a root canal
  • Cracked

Your Treatment Experience

Hand holding dental crownsThe crown treatment process requires two visits. At your first appointment, Dr. Bell will prep the tooth and reshape it to support the crown properly. After taking an impression of the prepped tooth, we place a temporary crown over it to prevent sensitivity. The impression is used to create a permanent, aesthetic crown that matches your smile. In about two weeks, we will have you return to our Alexandria dentist office for the crown to be bonded permanently into place.

Porcelain crowns not only restore your smile, they also compliment cosmetic options like veneers, bonding, and tooth colored fillings. Ask Dr. Bell for a customized care plan that reviews all of your options including dental bridges.
